Karnataka Pomegranate Growers Association
The Karnataka Pomegranate Growers’ Association (KPGA) is a non-profitable organization registered under Karnataka Societies registration act 1960 (Reg. No: DRB1/SOR/695/2022-2023). The main motto of the association is to safeguard the grower’s interest and improve economic conditions of the pomegranate grower’s. The registered office of KPGA is located at Gadenahalli, near Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
KPGA intends to assist pomegranate growers in adopting good agricultural practices like improving soil health, Integrated nutrient management, Integrated pest and disease management particularly nematode, wilt and bacterial blight control, crop harvesting, post harvest technologies and connecting farmers with domestic and international markets to get better price for their produce.
Objectives of Karnataka Pomegranate Growers Association
- To address the concerns of the pomegranate value chain, from pre-production, production, post-harvest management and value addition to logistics, marketing and branding.
- Enhancing production, productivity and improving quality of fruits through application of scientific and technological innovations in crop cultivation.
- Undertake research on cost effective cultivation practices in collaboration with Agricultural and Horticultural Universities and other research Institutes like National Research Centre on Pomegranate, Solapur.
- Introduction of new varieties of pomegranate best suitable to the climatic conditions.
- Establishment of scientific nursery for production and supply of quality planting material
- Promotion of organic farming practices for production of chemical free pomegranate to meet consumer needs of the importing countries.
- Negotiating and getting crop insurance policies and schemes for the benefit of farmers
- Assisting farmers to get Govt. benefits / support during crop failure due to natural calamities like hailstone, wind, flood and drought situations.
- Reduce harvest and post-harvest losses by developing / expanding / upgrading the infrastructure for post harvest handling of produce, value addition and market linkages.
- Recognition / Felicitation / Awards to progressive farmers.
- Establishment of soil, water, tissue nutrients testing and chemical residue testing laboratories and Providing cost effective services to farmers.
- Enhancing farmer’s knowledge through organizing trainings / workshops / seminars / conferences / field days / exposure visits and exhibitions.
- Conduct field demonstrations on new products / innovations.
- Formation of FPO’s for providing input and output marketing services.
- Creating marketing platforms for smooth and hassle free trading of fruits.
- Promotion of Direct sale of produce from farmers to consumers in support with resident welfare Associations in urban and semi urban clusters.
- Ensure participation of farmer representatives in formation of schemes and policies in horticulture and agriculture development.
- Building self-reliance among Pomegranate farmers, assured food security, good health, improvement in economic status of the farmers.
